James Dabbs Heywire - Brand New Day (guitar only) - Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Jimmy Herring, Audley Freed, Sonny Landreth "After several months of searching for a new amp I thought I was chasing something that couldn't be produced, at least not for under $4,000. I was so completely disappointed by every amp at Sam Ash and Guitar Center, I had driven to Fat Sounds in Raleigh to demo about a dozen or so boutique amps. Nothing there could produce the sound I heard in my head, not to mention the service was awful. After all the research and travel, I thought I was going to have to "settle" for a Dr. Z or a Top Hat. Then I heard Dave Eaton play through his Club Series Oldfield. Dave's Amp sounded so amazingly balanced and the breakup was so sweet, I sought out an Oldfield dealer the next day. Because the Oldfield Line has so many unique builds I tried every one I could. My eventual purchase, the Marquis 50, absolutely floored me. It was so lively and responsive to subtle changes in both my playing style and the controls on my PRS Custom 22, it actually gave me chills. Originally, it was in a head form and I played it through a 4x12 cab of v30s. The 50's plexi-Marshall was an obvious influence is the model's build, but the amp's tone was unquestionably unique. I loved the amp, but as a final product, I wanted something a bit more smooth and articulate. Paul was able to accommodate by putting it is a 2x12 combo with Weber AlNiCo Blue Dog speakers. It is not what I would consider a traditional pairing, but the end result just nailed the sound I had been seeking so diligently. Bold and warm; the highs are both meaty and articulate and while retaining a deep, yet tight, bottom end. All this, with the sensitivity I mentioned earlier, truly allows me to carve out my own voice. This amp would have been worth every penny as a one-trick-pony, but it delivers more than that. The amp has a high and a low gain channel, each with a bright and normal input. The differences between the 4 paths are considerable. The 5-way selector on my PRS only adds to the options. Even the single coils setting, which was previously impractical to use offset the humbuckers, creates a very full tone, that I can actually use on stage. I found this to be a hidden treasure as my playing styles vary and include rock, bluegrass, funk, rockabilly, and lazier, more ambient sounds. Depending on how I dial in, I can create an authentic sound without having to lug around 2 or 3 amps. I could not have asked for a better buying experience. Oldfield build quality is stellar and is exceeded only by the company's customer service. I would make it a point to try an Oldfield before you settle on any amp purchase."
